Dear JSMA community,

By now, many of you have become aware of some of the findings of Dr. Alceste Pappas, a consultant hired to do a thorough study of the museum in all areas, including operations, board structure, governance, fundraising, volunteer involvement, collections, exhibitions and education. This study was commissioned by the University as a way to provide an external assessment of the opportunities and challenges to the museum’s transformation following the recent renovation and expansion. As we all know, growth often requires change, and we consider this study to be a positive step forward in establishing the museum’s place as an internationally-recognized repository of art and an integral partner in educating both students and community in the many facets of the art world.

I invite you to take this opportunity to read Dr. Pappas’ report and to expand our lines of communication about how we can use this information to move forward. The university leadership, the museum staff, and the museum board are all committed to the continued success of the museum and are working together to ensure that we build a strong framework for the future.

If you should have questions about the report, please don’t hesitate to contact me at tlw@uoregon.edu or Interim Executive Director Robert Melnick at rzm@uoregon.edu.

Thank you for being part of our community and for sharing with us in this process.

Warmly,

Terri Warpinski Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Community Engagement
