Fact Sheet: About the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon

Location: Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon, 1430 Johnson Lane, Eugene, Ore.

Size: 63,180 square feet total; 38,154 square feet of new construction

Cost: $14.2 million

Funding: The State of Oregon awarded $6.36 million in state-serviced bonds to the $14.2 million renovation and expansion project. These funds were matched, beyond the requirement, through a combination of grants, estate gifts and contributions from more than 750 individual donors.

General Contractor: Wildish Building Co., Eugene, Ore.

-Ground breaking ceremony, Sept. 10, 2002

-Capping ceremony, July 24, 2003

-Open House, May 8, 2004

-Collection and staff move back inside the building, August 2004

-Furnish the interiors and install the galleries, Fall 2004

-Grand reopening, Jan. 23, 2005

Building Features:   Collections galleries featuring American, European, Korean, Chinese and Japanese art

-Changing Exhibitions Gallery totaling nearly 4,000 square feet

-Educational suite, containing an interactive discovery gallery, art studio and lecture hall

-New Marché Museum Café and enlarged Museum Store

-Reception hall, available for public rental

-Transformed infrastructure enabling the museum to host major traveling exhibitions

-Fully accessible museum that is Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant

Museum Hours: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday

Marché Museum /Museum Store Hours: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday

9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. extended Wednesday hours 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

Admissions: Adults, $5; Seniors (62 and older) and students (high school and non-UO college with ID), $3. Free to museum members, UO students, UO faculty and staff members, and children 13 and under. Free general admission to everyone the first Friday of each month.

MusEvenings!: Extended hours are offered from 5 to 8 p.m. each Wednesday and frequently feature lectures, gallery talks and music. Visitors "pay as you wish."
