EUGENE, Ore.—(Oct. 20, 2006)—Kyong-il Ong will perform traditional Korean dance on Saturday, Nov. 4, at the University of Oregon's Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.
The museum is sponsoring the public performance, which will begin at 1 p.m. The performance is free with admission to the museum, which is located at 1430 Johnson Lane.
Kyong-il Ong, a North Korean native and former principal dancer of the National Dance Company of Korea, came to the United States in 2003. Since then she has been performing traditional Korean dance and creating unique dance works in San Francisco. Ong also participated in the opening ceremonies at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco.
The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art has received international praise for its Korean collection which includes traditional costumes, ceramics, and paintings.
"This dance performance continues the museum's goal of increasing awareness and appreciation for other cultures," said Debbie Williamson-Smith, marketing and public relations coordinator.
Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens, high school students and non-UO college students with ID.
