UO MUSEUM OF ART HIRES NEW MUSEUM EDUCATOR
EUGENE—Becky Tonkin has joined the University of Oregon Museum of Art
as the new museum educator for university and community audiences. Tonkin
will plan, administer and evaluate programs designed for both adults and children,
including the new Interactive Discovery Gallery, programming for special exhibitions
and the collection galleries, after school and family offerings, museum tours
and studio workshops.
Tonkin was selected from a competitive pool of candidates for her strong background
in arts management, her innate creativity and a lifelong passion for sharing
the arts with the community. In addition to earning a master’s degree
in Arts Administration from the University of Oregon, Tonkin brings experience
in arts education, making and teaching art, developing evaluation tools and
programming for a wide range of learning styles.
Tonkin comes to the art museum at a pivotal time, as the staff prepares to
reopen the new UO Museum of Art to the public in October 2004 after completion
of a major renovation and expansion project that will double the size of the
building.
