UO'S JORDAN SCHNITZER MUSEUM OF ART TO PROVIDE GLIMPSE OF UNSEEN WARHOL
EVENT: " Andy Warhol: Dispelling the Myths and Misconceptions," an informal conversation with the former associate editor of Warhol's Interview magazine.
DATE: Wednesday, March 2
TIME: 6 p.m.
PLACE: Lecture Hall, Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, 1430 Johnson Lane on the UO campus
DETAILS:
Paige Powell, former associate editor of Andy Warhol's Interview magazine,
will share the unseen Warhol in "Andy Warhol: Dispelling the Myths
and Misconceptions." Joining Powell will be museum teen docent Ren
Rossini and associate director Lawrence Fong for a free evening of casual
conversation about the famous artist, currently featured in the museum's
"Andy Warhol's Dream America" exhibition.
"The evening will provide the community with a unique opportunity to glimpse Warhol's less public side, providing more context and perhaps greater insight into Warhol's work," explains Fong.
Powell, a Portland, Ore., native, joined the staff of Interview in New York City in 1983 and quickly rocketed to associate editor. She led a life filled with glamour, art openings, premiers and numerous celebrity gatherings at Warhol's studio, the Factory, working side by side with the artist. Following Warhol's death, Powell returned to Oregon in 1994 and founded the Pearl Arts Foundation, which facilitated the creation of two landmark public works for Portland-Kenny Scharf's totems in Jameson Square and the Wegman Dog Bowl in the North Park Blocks. Powell now dedicates herself to her lifelong passion for animal rights.
Support for "Andy Warhol's Dream America: Screenprints from the Collection of the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation" and related educational and outreach program has been made possible by a grant from The Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation. The Dream America exhibit will continue through May 1.
