DETAILS:

Photographs generously donated by more than 50 prominent photographers from across the United States will be auctioned on Saturday, Feb. 12 at the University of Oregon's Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, 1430 Johnson Lane. Tickets to the Photography at Oregon 2005 Auction cost $30 per person and include a reception beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by the 7 p.m. auction of more than 60 prints. The proceeds will support Photography at Oregon programs at the art museum.

The soon-to-be-auctioned photographs are currently on display on the main floor of the newly expanded Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, near the space where the Photography at Oregon Gallery was originally located more than a quarter century ago. Many photographers who participated in the Photography at Oregon program while still young in their careers now have a long track record of regional, national and international exhibitions.

“We are eager to host the Photography at Oregon program in the newly expanded museum and look forward to giving it higher visibility,” explains David Turner, director of the art museum and part of the Photography at Oregon Gallery in the 1970s. “The caliber of photographers donating to the auction is a testament to the respect the program has earned from across the nation.”

This year's contributing photographers include Bill Owens of Hayward, Calif., widely know for his 1972 documentary book “Suburbia,” and Meridel Rubenstein of Santa Fe, N.M., who explores the cultural traditions of the Native Americans and Hispanics of New Mexico, as well as the scientific community at the National Laboratories of Los Alamos. Well-known contributing photographers from Eugene include Brian Lanker, Gary Tepfer, Terry Warpinski and Dan Powell. Stu Levy of Portland, Ore. and Christopher Burkett of Milwaukie, Ore. have also donated prints to the 2005 auction.

Photographs can also be previewed at an online catalog accessible at http://jsma.uoregon.edu. Tickets for the event are available at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art Store, open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with extended hours Wednesdays until 7:30 p.m., and weekends from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The $30 ticket includes wine, hors d'hoeuvres, refreshments and live music featuring pianist Dean Kramer.
