Andy Warhol Museum Director Tom Sokolowski will provide insight into the cultural environment in which Andy Warhol worked in a free slide-illustrated lecture and gallery talk at the University of Oregon’s Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29. Sokolowski’s lecture is offered in conjunction with the art museum’s current special exhibition, “Andy Warhol’s Dream America,” which is on display through May 1.
Sokolowski will discuss Warhol’s influence on the way Americans perceive one another and his use of iconography in art. The Andy Warhol Museum is the most comprehensive single-artist museum in the world, with a collection of more than 4,000 works of art by Warhol including paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, sculpture, film, videotapes and an extensive archive.
Tickets to Saturday’s lecture are limited and will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis. Advanced tickets may be picked up at the Museum Store, open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Lecture participants will be invited to view the museum galleries for free following the event.
