UO MUSEUM OF ART SCHEDULES PHOTO AUCTION NOV. 16
EUGENE-Prints from more than 60 prominent photographers will be sold
to the highest bidder on Sunday, Nov. 16, during the 26th Photography at Oregon
Auction. The proceeds will support photography exhibitions and programs at
the University of Oregon Museum of Art.
The auction opens at noon and bidding begins at 1 p.m. in the Alumni Lounge
at Gerlinger Hall, 1468 University St.
More than 70 photographs ranging from figure studies to assemblages to landscapes
have been donated to this year's auction, which will feature well-known contemporary
photographers including Brian Lanker and Dan Powell of Eugene; Stu Levy of
Portland; Christopher Burkett of Milwaukie; and Martha Casanave of Monterey,
Calif.
"The Photography at Oregon Auction is a great opportunity for collectors
eager to learn more about the history of the medium, as well as a rare chance
to acquire art at a very reasonable price," explains David Turner, UO
Museum of Art director.
Since 1966, the Photography at Oregon Committee has joined with the UO Museum
of Art to promote photography and bring contemporary and historical photography
exhibitions to the university.
During the UO Museum of Art's major renovation and expansion project that
will nearly double the size of the building, such museum events are being
held at alternate locations. The new UO Museum of Art is scheduled to reopen
in October 2004.
