EVENT: "The Artful Plate: Dishing Up Art" preview
exhibition and auction to benefit the University of Oregon Museum of Art's
renovation and expansion project.
DATE: Saturday, Oct. 18
TIME: Preview Exhibition: 11 a.m.-4 p.m.; Auction: 6 p.m.
LOCATION: Exhibition: Maple and Oak Rooms; Auction: Ballroom
Erb Memorial Union, 1222 E. 13th Ave., on the UO campus
BACKGROUND:
Unique works of art designed and donated by more than 40 regional artists
will go to the highest bidders during the $100-a-person "The Artful Plate:
Dishing Up Art" dinner, auction and dance.
Prior to the auction, the public may preview and place sealed bids on the
works of art at a free exhibition from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Maple and
Oak rooms of the Erb Memorial Union.
Objects to be auctioned range from an acrylic painting created by Mark Clarke
to Mike Leckie's cast glass, copper and marble "Harvest Plate."
Among other artists who have donated their creations are Robert Canaga, Margaret
Coe, Yuji Hiratsuka, David Joyce, Beverly Soasey,
Christine Sundt, Kate Wagle, Jane West and Betsy Wolfston.
"The artists gloriously rose to the challenge of taking the standard
form of the plate and creating something else," says David Turner, UO
Museum of Art director. "We hope the public will join us in celebrating
the artists' creativity in adapting their artwork to this theme at both the
preview and auction."
