LOCAL ART ENTHUSIASTS SHARE TODAY'S ART WITH NEXT CENTURY
Specially created art,
letters, photographs and stories offering insight into the community, the
University of Oregon Museum of Art, and the nature of art will be on display
at a limited viewing from 10-11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at Collier House,
1170 E. 13th Ave. on the UO campus, before being sealed for 100 years inside
a time capsule within the walls of the new UO Museum of Art. The capsule,
designed by youth artists at Maude Kerns Summer Arts Camp, includes
personal letters from Eugene Mayor Jim Torrey and UO President Dave Frohnmayer;
origami, paintings and drawings from local children; youthful predictions
of the nature of art in the next century; signatures and thoughts from construction
workers, donors and museum staff; and more. A contributing fourth grader from
O'Hara Catholic School predicts, "Art will be like new colors [and] mind
controlled paint brushes." The time capsule will be sealed inside the
walls of
the art museum within the next month as the major renovation and expansion
project progresses. The new UO Museum of Art is scheduled to reopen in fall
of 2004.
