NEW WEBSITE CELEBRATES ART AND LEGACY OF RENOWNED PAINTER DAVID MCCOSH
EUGENE-The University
of Oregon Museum of Art (UOMA) has introduced a new website to celebrate the
art and legacy of painter David McCosh at http://uoma.uoregon.edu/mccosh.
Targeting scholars and art enthusiasts, the site provides a greater look at
McCosh, who is recognized for his strong influence on the direction of painting
in the Pacific Northwest, as well as for teaching several generations of students
drawing, painting, and lithography.
McCosh (1903-1981) received national recognition throughout his painting career
spanning over forty years. His one-man, juried and invitational exhibitions
took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Whitney Museum
of American Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the San Francisco Museum of
Art, the Seattle Art Museum, the Portland Art Museum, and the University of
Oregon Museum of Art, among many other venues.
Additional information about the artist is available through UOMA, which is
the single largest repository of art works and related archival materials
on David McCosh. This collection contains almost two thousand paintings, watercolors,
drawings, and sketches that are presently available for research.
